Hydroplaning is a term used to describe what happens if you lose control of your vehicle when driving in wet or slippery conditions. It means that your tires lose traction, causing your vehicle to skid.
If your car hydroplanes, it is important to remain calm so that you can safely and effectively regain control of your vehicle. When you notice that you are beginning to skid, take your foot off of the accelerator. Rather than hitting the brakes, you should instead use the steering wheel to guide your car in the right direction. If you do find it necessary to brake, make sure to tap lightly on your brake pedal.
